Welcome 2017
So I’ve scratching my brain on what to write this blog on, but since we’re only a few days into 2017 I thought I would talk about cliché resolutions, and why I can’t commit to making a list of my own resolutions. So here it goes, the most common resolutions for 2017 and why you won’t see my list of resolutions! Also like if you have some super awesome non cliché resolution I would love to hear about it, in all seriousness I just stole NBC’s list of top resolutions.
Can I start off by saying I really don’t understand the purpose of creating resolutions on the first? You literally just had 365 days to become a better person and if you weren’t working on it constantly throughout the last year, I have an odd feeling that nothing is going to transition overnight. Call me a realist, but I feel that becoming a better person takes more than making a statement with no repercussion of not following through.
#1 Lose Weight
The most common and cliché resolution ever, I understand that holiday’s is a time to eat, drink, and celebrate, and I see why this follows consistenty year after year. However; I feel like every year it’s the same thing and we gorge ourselves into hibernation, and 6 days later we are suddenly going to change our bad habits? UMMM no, I think if you were overly concerned about your weight you would have done something to moderate the holiday consumption traffic. Healthy lifestyles aren’t something you wake up with magically on the first day of a new year. If this is a real goal for you…don’t wait until the beginning of the year to better yourself.
#2 Get Organized
Okay, this one makes me laugh because literally our 1,000 sq. ft. apartment looks like the holidays have vomited all over it, and it’s been a collaborative effort to make it this way. I think I feed off Stacy’s stress at times, because as soon as finals week hit her, my life became a hot mess express. Well partially that, and I apparently have been everywhere but home, but that’s irrelevant. I’m at the point where I thoroughly think about whether or not it’s actually worth my time to unpack before I leave again. Here’s the thing, I consider myself organized but I also probably won’t ever have a “show home.” Therefore, I know that 9 out of 10 times I have something I need to get done around the house. Although I see our house being more organized in the future, I don’t necessarily feel the need to make this a resolution. Guys, if you come over anytime just be graced with my personality and presence…do you really care how my house looks?
#3 Live Life to the Fullest
Wait?! That’s an actual resolution that’s being made?? What have you been doing up until this point of your life? I always like to live with the theory that I truly am living life to the fullest, because I surround myself with incredible people. No, that doesn’t mean I’m jumping on planes all the time, or bungee jumping off of national monuments, but I would like to think that I’m still living a full life. I wake up each morning, and try to have a positive attitude towards anything I might encounter throughout the day. I take everything one step at a time and try to find the silver lining, because there always is one. You know how different our world would be if everyone just looked for a silver lining?
#4 Learn New Hobbies
Alright, I can’t lie here….I did say that this was going to be my year to focus on guitar (Watch out Taylor Swift, there’s a filterless Puerto Rican about to take your place in the country world). However, ever since graduating college I’ve been looking for new hobbies. What do “adults” do with all their spare time at night? I find myself so painfully bored at night, that I just keep working, or I waste a ridiculous amount of time in the gym or watching Netflix…even making dinner doesn’t take me long enough to waste a sufficient amount of time. I really must work on my “adult” routine, if anyone has a “How to be an adult” schedule I would gladly borrow it! Also, shouldn’t new hobbies be an ongoing thing? I love finding new ways to waste time, therefore make this a lifestyle…not a resolution.
#5 Travel more
Is that even a real resolution? I feel like people either have the travel bug or they don’t. Thee end
It’s not that I hate resolutions, or I think it’s terrible to have goals, but what is America’s fascination with resolutions. I was reading an article about resolutions, and it said that the average resolution lasts 3 weeks. We become so fascinated with the whole concept of “new year, new me” that we forget that improving ourselves is something that we constantly should work on. So, this year I challenge you to go beyond your resolutions and challenge yourself daily to better yourself in every way you deem necessary. Heck it could be something so miniscule that no one even notices a change, but if it’s improving your life then why wouldn’t you. So make 2017 your year to accomplish long term goals, and avoid the hype of short term resolutions.
Until next week,
me
