Growing up as my Father’s Only Son

My poor dad must’ve had a lot of payback because when he finally decided to reproduced he got stuck in a house full of girls. Despite his best efforts karma had other plans. So instead of trying again to actually get the son he’s always dreamed of he corrupted me instead.

So in light of Father’s Day weekend I decided it would be a great time to tell you about what it was like being raised as my fathers only son.

When you’re your father’s only son you grow up wearing carpenters jeans, t-shirts and hats.

You find ways to bond with him, from hunting, to fishing, and even grabbing a beer with the boys.

Growing up as my fathers only son I learned early to hold my own. Whether it was dishing crap to each other, maintaining my alcohol, or winning a bet. I refused to be proved wrong, and told I couldn’t do something because I was a girl.

You learn to cope with things beyond the normal mentality. You learn to be the support for the man that help you grow and support you your entire life.

You become more like him daily, and your mom cusses under her breath because raising your fathers child has shown to be quite a challenge.

You learn to work hard, and go with the flow because it’s what you’ve watched him do for years.

Growing up as your fathers only son you develop embarrassing habits that’s you eventually can’t deny.

You choose whiskey instead of wine, and a night in the middle of no where over a night on the town.

You learn to be independent, and strong. Despite the fact that you’ve always depended on him, because even though he’s been your foundation he’s raised you to become your own person.

Growing up as your fathers only son you learn that you wouldn’t have it any other way, because he’s shaped you and impacted you into someone you never dreamed about becoming.
